Extension of the project duration until March 2027
More time for meadow bird protection and peatland conservation
Good news for meadow bird conservation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has approved the application to extend the project duration. This means that the EU LIFE project LIMICODRA will now run until 31 March 2027.

Focus on long-term impact
Since 2017, the project team has been working along the East Pomeranian coast – from the Greifswalder Bodden, the Peenestrom and the Achterwasser, across the island of Usedom to the Haff meadows south of the Oder Lagoon – to reconcile meadow bird conservation with peatland protection and agricultural use. The extension provides the opportunity to consolidate the project’s objectives and secure its measures in the long term.
Why the extension is important
The challenges in meadow bird conservation are complex and require perseverance. With the additional project duration, LIFE LIMICODRA can:
- complete ongoing measures,
- evaluate the effectiveness of conservation and management strategies,
- transfer new findings into practice, and
- strengthen cooperation with land users, authorities and associations.
Outlook until 2027
The extension provides a further 18 months to continue along the chosen path. The aim remains to develop sustainable solutions for the protection of endangered meadow bird species that will endure beyond the lifetime of the project.
Project Manager Anna Lena Kaufmann emphasizes:
“The extension gives us the necessary time to consolidate our measures and to establish lasting structures for meadow bird conservation in the region.”
